Welcome Party

McMichael Japan Exchange students were treated to a great Welcome Party.  Each of the students are staying with a separate family while they are here in Japan.  We enjoyed Japanese Barbecue and Island music.  Each family took time to introduce themselves and expressed how excited they are for the opportunity to host.  All of us are very honored to be staying with such great families.  We are making many memories that will last us a lifetime!

Brennan is with the Tokashiki family. Brennan hosted Sho when the Amami students visited Nacogdoches.   Also pictured is Mr. Mori and son Takuto, who Brennan hosted in October.

Chris is with the Ikezaki family.  Chris hosted Yuto in October.  The Ikezaki family hosted another McMichael student in 2012.

Erin is with the Seki family.  Yuka also came to Nacogdoches in October.

Graham is with the Taira family.

Madison with the Hamasuna family.  Shion came to Nacogdoches in October.

Noah with the Murata family.

Preston is with the Higo family.  Preston hosted Tomoki in October.

Briceida Hernandez with the Yasuda family.

So far everything is going well.  On Friday, we met at the Board of Education where Mr. Miya taught the students a few Japanese phrases that he encouraged the students to use.  We met with the Amami Oshima Mayor, who is beginning his second term as Mayor.  The mayor in Amami will serve a 5 year term.  We then had lunch downtown, and looked in the various shops.

The big adventure was the kayaking at Mangrove Park.  Mangroves can grow in a combination of both salt and fresh water.  We were looking for a giant eel, but did not find it.

We are looking forward to going to the schools on Monday.  So far we have had plenty of sunshine and great temperatures.  Hopefully our luck will continue!

Sayonara for now from Amami-Oshima, Japan!
